NEW BRITAIN — New Britain residents in need of dental care will have an opportunity to receive free treatment this weekend, as the Connecticut Foundation for Dental Outreach (CFDO) brings its 18th annual Connecticut Mission of Mercy Free Dental Clinic (CTMOM) to New Britain High School on Friday and Saturday.
“CTMOM is committed to improving the quality of life for all that we treat through necessary dental care,” said Dr. Laurence Levy, Chair of the Connecticut Foundation for Dental Outreach. “The City of New Britain is well poised to help us extend our mission to as many patients as possible.”
This year marks the first time the CTMOM Free Dental Clinic will be hosted in New Britain. Over the course of two days, organizers expect to serve approximately 1,100 patients, consistent with prior years. The event is aimed at individuals who are unable to afford dental care and will operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
The clinic will be set up with 80 dental stations and staffed by an estimated 800 volunteers, including dental professionals and community supporters.
“We are thrilled to bring the CTMOM Free Dental Clinic to New Britain for the first time, providing essential dental care to those who need it most,” said Lisa Perry-Swain, Executive Director of CFDO. “Access to dental care is vital for overall health, and through the generosity of our volunteers and partners, we are able to offer life-changing services to individuals and families in underserved communities.”
Services provided at the clinic will include dental exams, x-rays, cleanings, fillings, extractions, and limited root canals on front teeth and premolars. In addition, interim partial dentures and repairs will be available on a limited basis.
New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart emphasized the importance of access to dental services. “Access to important health care services is critical to one’s quality of life and can have a significant impact on the overall well-being of a community,” she said. “I am grateful to the Connecticut Foundation for Dental Outreach for bringing the CT Mission of Mercy Free Dental Clinic to New Britain this year and providing essential dental care to those who may not have access to it otherwise.”
The clinic underscores the importance of accessible dental care as a component of public health and aims to reach as many underserved individuals as possible with critical treatment services.
