MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A Wisconsin-based nonprofit is working to close a major healthcare gap for veterans by offering dental insurance to those who are often overlooked.
Objective Veterans’ Smile, founded by Marine Corps veteran Kyle Arneson, provides annual dental insurance to veterans across the state. Arneson appeared on WMTV Monday to discuss the organization’s mission and the impact it is making.
“Many people assume veterans automatically receive dental benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs, but that’s not the reality,” Arneson explained. In fact, fewer than 1% of U.S. veterans qualify for dental coverage through the VA, according to data shared by the nonprofit.
To address this gap, Objective Veterans’ Smile raises funds through donations and uses the money to pay for dental insurance premiums for veterans in Wisconsin. Arneson emphasized the importance of this support, saying, “We’re really having an impact on the quality of life for our local veterans.”
The nonprofit partners with Delta Dental of Wisconsin and Physicians Mutual to deliver these services.
Veterans interested in receiving coverage can find more information on the organization’s website or by visiting their local VA office for contact details.
Arneson encouraged the public to support the initiative by donating or helping to raise awareness. “Whether it’s through financial contributions or simply spreading the word, every bit helps,” he said.
