LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Humane Society has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry to improve dental care for animals in their shelter.
This funding, provided through the “Make Me Smile” program, will allow the society to purchase necessary dental equipment. The goal is to improve the health of shelter animals and increase their chances of being adopted.
As part of the grant, the foundation also organized a hands-on training event to help the society’s staff enhance their clinical dentistry skills.
Dr. Emily Bewley from the Kentucky Humane Society explained that dental issues have often prevented animals from being adopted. She expressed that this new equipment and training would significantly improve their ability to help more animals.
“Dental problems have prevented us from helping certain animals in the past,” Dr. Bewley said. “Cats with dental diseases, in particular, often weren’t getting the care they needed. With this grant and new equipment, we’ll be able to help these animals, save their lives, and find them loving homes. This grant will make a huge difference for the animals in our community.”
