LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — On Sunday, a Louisville dental office offered free dental care to children and families with little or no insurance.

Ruby Dental & Braces hosted its 10th annual Sharing Smiles Day, inviting families in need to receive dental exams and treatments at their Bardstown Road location.

The event was open to children up to age 18, as well as adults without Medicaid or any other dental insurance coverage.

Nisha Hall, practice manager at Ruby Dental & Braces, said over 40 people registered for the event.

“It makes me feel rewarded,” Hall said. “Oral health is the foundation of overall health. It boosts confidence, helps people secure jobs, and improves quality of life.”

Sharing Smiles Day is organized annually by Benevis, a national organization focused on dental health care and orthodontic services.

Hall added that this year’s event was the largest the local practice has seen in its ten years of participation.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, untreated cavities are nearly three times more common among children aged 2 to 5 in low-income households compared to those in higher-income families.
