WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A mobile dental program is spreading smiles and promoting healthy habits among children across Florida.
On Monday, the Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures (BSBF) Mobile Van Unit visited The Kitchen Ministry at Trinity United Methodist Church in West Palm Beach. The visit was part of an ongoing effort to provide free dental screenings and education to children 12 and under.
The brightly decorated van arrived with cheerful energy, offering more than just dental check-ups — it delivered lessons in oral hygiene and supplies to help kids keep their teeth clean.
Bianca Masson, a representative for the BSBF program, explained the goal of the initiative.
“Our mission is to promote dental health among children by providing screenings and education,” Masson said. “We cover the entire state of Florida. There are eight vans operating nationally, and we move between cities like Miami and West Palm Beach.”
Each child who visited the van received a visual dental screening conducted by a licensed oral health professional. They also received a goody bag filled with dental care items — including a new toothbrush, toothpaste sample, brushing chart, and a list of nearby dental offices for follow-up care if needed.
Organizers were quick to clarify that the screenings are not a substitute for a full dental check-up, but rather a helpful and educational step toward better dental habits.
Masson stressed the long-term impact of starting dental care early.
“Whatever you learn and value in your childhood, you’re likely to continue as an adult,” she said.
The BSBF mobile unit follows strict health and safety guidelines. The team disinfects all equipment between each child and performs a full deep cleaning at the end of the day. According to a news release, all volunteers and students are required to wear masks while inside the van.
With its mix of education, care, and community outreach, the Bright Smiles van delivered more than just dental tools — it brought confidence and joy to children, helping them smile a little brighter.
