QUINCY — Dr. Michael W. Herndon of Lost Sierra Dental will present a one-hour webinar titled “Periodontal Prosthesis: A Lost Art?” on May 21 for the International Association of Dental Specialists (IADS).
The IADS is a global organization made up of dental professionals who focus exclusively on one area of practice, such as periodontics, prosthodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery, or endodontics. Dr. Herndon stands out in the field for his comprehensive approach—he treats complex dental cases that span multiple specialties, all within a single practice.
According to Lost Sierra Dental, Herndon’s work is recognized for its thorough documentation and careful treatment planning. His ability to handle advanced cases across various disciplines sets him apart in a field where most specialists focus on a single area.
Locally, Herndon is perhaps best known for treating country music legend Merle Haggard. The singer was referred to Herndon by two prosthodontists—one based in Auburn and the other in San Francisco—after they attended Herndon’s presentations at the San Francisco Academy of Advanced Dental Education, where he was a founding member.
Herndon has practiced dentistry in Quincy for 42 years and is a long-standing member of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), where he has been active for 37 years. He regularly contributes to the AAP’s private forum and holds a certificate in implant-assisted reconstructive dentistry, with a focus on periodontal prosthesis.
In 1993, Herndon completed a fellowship in Advanced Periodontics and Periodontal Prosthesis at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He was honored with the title of Amsterdam Fellow, named after Dr. Morton Amsterdam, a pioneer in interdisciplinary dental care.
Herndon is also a registered instructor with the IADS, continuing to share his experience and insights with dental professionals around the world.
