WELLESLEY, Mass., June 3, 2025 — Sun Life U.S. has appointed Dr. Todd Gray as the new Chief Dental Officer (CDO) for its Dental division, which includes DentaQuest. In this role, Dr. Gray will lead efforts to improve the company’s clinical strategy by applying evidence-based practices, managing quality, enhancing collaboration with dental providers and professional groups, and promoting innovation in oral health care.

David Healy, president of Sun Life U.S. Dental, said, “This leadership role will strengthen our clinical team and improve partnerships with providers. Dr. Gray’s experience makes him well-suited to align clinical efforts across all our business areas—from group dental plans to Medicaid programs and Medicare Advantage solutions. I look forward to working with him as we continue our mission to improve oral health for everyone.”

Dr. Gray will also promote a culture focused on patient-centered care, with strong attention to prevention. He will support Sun Life’s advocacy to educate policy makers and stakeholders on the vital link between oral health and overall health. His work will help ensure laws and policies support better access to quality dental care.

Dr. Gray shared, “I am passionate about making dental care easier and more effective for providers. This aligns with Sun Life and DentaQuest’s goal to expand access to quality oral health services across the country. The chance to work closely with dental providers and emphasize prevention drew me to this role. I’m excited to help improve oral health outcomes in every community we serve.”

With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Gray has worked in direct patient care, managed dental benefits, and focused on special populations such as Medicaid recipients and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Before joining Sun Life, he was a clinical advisor at DentaQuest, where he helped integrate medical and dental services, recruited network providers, and supported government outreach and program design.

Dr. Gray’s previous roles include Chief Dental Officer at Teledentistry.com and Liberty Dental Plan, dental director for the State of Nevada, and a public policy advocate for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He also served as adjunct faculty at the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine and held board positions with organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada and the Nevada State Medicaid Advisory Committee. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and completed his pediatric dentistry residency at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.
