The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) has prohibited medical and dental colleges from filling their own vacant seats. According to a directive, no college is allowed to admit students directly to these vacant spots.
In a letter addressed to the principals of medical and dental colleges, PMDC Registrar Dr. Shaista instructed that admitting universities must manage all admissions in their respective provinces or regions. This must follow the rules outlined in Section 17(5) of the PMDC Act, 2022.
Dr. Shaista emphasized that admitting universities are responsible for all admissions within their areas and must strictly follow this mandate. She added that any admissions made under the PMDC’s amnesty program will not be recognized unless they are processed through the designated admitting university.
Recently, the PMDC lowered the merit requirements for vacant seats in private medical and dental colleges. The passing mark for the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) was reduced to 50 percent for MBBS and 45 percent for BDS programs.
The Liaquat Medical University in Jamshoro has been named the authorized institution for admissions in Sindh. The university charged applicants a separate admission fee of Rs4,500, while the testing agency collected Rs7,000 as the test fee from candidates.
